BRIONY GREENHILL

in concert

Saturday 27 April, 7.30pm

Briony is at the forefront of improvisational artistry, fusing elements from folk, soul and jazz to create a sound described as “Joni Mitchell meets Gil Scott Heron, with a British accent.”

Briony Greenhill is a folk-soul improvisational artist; a singer, pianist, arranger and composer. Her lyrics, which come as improvisations, focus on themes of human depth, paradigm shift, the intimacy and bigger picture of our times. Her multi-instrumental music crosses various genres, offering the opportunity to join her in creating lush and wild vocal harmonies.

Her last album, Crossing the Ocean, was featured in The Guardian, Mojo, Women’s Hour and Radio 3. Mojo described Briony’s music as “like Marvin Gaye crossed with a funky Earth Mother… this is sensual music that, if you want them, could give extra reasons to live.”

For a unique performance here at Alfoxton, Briony will be joined by Matt Kelly. Matt plays fiddle with Martha Tilston, and is a composer for film and television. Expect live improvisation and the chance to sing along. After the concert the space will be open for jamming. Tickets are £12.

Vocal Improvisation workshop | 28 April

Briony will also be leading a vocal improvisation workshop the following morning. Click here for more info. Guests coming for both events have the option to camp overnight at Alfoxton. See below for details.

You must book separately for each event.
